October 2023 Director's Note
Greetings,
Dripping Springs is a community that knows the value and importance of their public library. If you love DSCL, we hope you will love FODSCL - the Friends of the Dripping Springs Community Library by becoming a member. Our Friends support us financially each year, so we can offer you the best summer programming. Because of their generous gift to us this year, we will also be replacing our two AWE computers in the Children's wing with the updated versions. Please read below a message from the Friends' president.
Marcia Atilano, Library Director
The Friends of the Dripping Springs Community Library wants to thank everyone who came out to our successful book sale at Caliterra. Thanks especially to the Caliterra Book Club and HOA. We have recently welcomed new board member Natalie Mahaney to the Friends and currently have another opening on our eleven-member board. Please reach out to us at info@fodscl.org for more information. And finally, we are glad to announce our 13th annual Pouring Over Books event will be at the Prospect House on February 25, 2024, with local mystery author Mark Pryor. Save the date and watch for more!
Martha Brown, President

An Annular or Partial Solar Eclipse is Coming to Your Town Soon!
Be Ready, Be Safe! Be Amazed!
On October 14, 2023, an annular eclipse will be visible in the continental United States. In the morning, the moon will cover the face of the Sun, so that the Sun appears in the sky as a single ring of light, known as the
ring of fire. A total solar eclipse will be visible in the spring on April 8, 2024. Both of these natural phenomena will be visible here in Dripping Springs!
The sun, our closest star, is so powerful and bright it must never be viewed directly by the human eye. In preparation for the safe viewing of the solar eclipse, a workshop for creating a Pinhole Projector or a Pinhole Viewer. Families wanting to build a Pinhole Viewer must bring a cardboard shoe box with its lid. Both simple devices allow you to safely view the shadow of the eclipse. In addition, all workshop participants may take home NASA approved Solar Viewing Glasses.

*Online Registration is needed for all story times and children’s programs!
We are excited to see story time attendance growing and have added times to accommodate. Crafts and extra activities are part of the fun. We need your help to assure that we have enough supplies for everyone. Registering for the specific time you will be attending, and even canceling registration, if you are unable to attend, would be so helpful!
