June 2023 Letter from our Director!
Greetings!
For those with children, you made it, and so did your child! Take a deep breath and dive into our fun summer reading/programming detailed below. If you are child-free, there is also something for you to attend. Share the activities, services and extensive eResources with your new neighbor, who may have not yet had time to find us and get a library card. Lifelong learning opportunities for all. It is what we do! We are looking forward to seeing you!
Marcia Atilano, Library Director

Summer Reading Clubs for All Age Groups!
Read this summer and log your books using the library’s software program ReadSquared. Books can be logged from June 1 through July 28.
Readers will earn points for each book read and logged. They can then use those points to enter prize raffles in each age group.
Reading Clubs include: Ages 0-5, Ages 6-11, Ages 12-18 Adults 19+
Hint: When first registering your family of readers, select “Myself + Other Readers” so children can be added to your adult account.
Reading Prizes for this summer offer a wonderful variety for readers in the two youngest age groups. Thanks to generous donations from area businesses we can provide many opportunities to our young readers and their families.
Early Childhood (0-5)
Children (6-11)
Young Adults (12-18)
Adults (19+)
Thanks also go to The Friends of the Dripping Springs Community Library for their fund-raising efforts that help provide special library programs and also many summer reading prizes.
Extra parking has been made available for summer library use thanks to the cooperation of the Dripping Springs Youth Sports Association. The baseball fields parking lot can be used by library members when the fields are not in use for baseball events. |

Summer Programs and Registration
June and July are filled with so many wonderful programs and activities that online registration becomes a must. Size limits are set for many programs and an automatic wait list is created when the group exceeds the maximum. Don’t hesitate to register for a desired program even if the max number is taken. As programs approach there can be several cancellations that can allow wait listed names to be added to the attendance list. You are notified by email if this happens.
Hint: After registering for a program, you receive an email confirmation. You might need to later cancel attendance, and if you save those confirmations, you can easily cancel with one click. Otherwise send an email directly to childrenslibrarian@dscl.org or adultservices@dscl.org with wording about which program your group will not attend. Thanks for helping summer programs continue smoothly.

This month, in honor the father's and father figures in our lives, stop by the Library and take a guess at how many lifesaver candies are in a jar. The closest guess wins the candy!
In addition, you can share a time your Father saved you or saved someone in your community. This could be an actual life or death save or the not-so-literal save that we see happen in our daily lives. Either way, share one of your Dad's many Saves and we will add it to our window display for the rest of the Community to see.
Thank you, Fathers!

Who needs a reading chart when you can make chain!
Your reading will help create a Paper Clip Reading Chain during June and July. Read and log your reading then add one paper clip for each book as you visit the library this summer! The chain will grow and grow as all our readers attach clips week by week. How long will our chain be by the end of July? Read, add paper clips and we will see!

*Online Registration is needed for all story times and children’s programs!
We are excited to see story time attendance growing and have added times to accommodate. Crafts and extra activities are part of the fun. We need your help to assure that we have enough supplies for everyone. Registering for the specific time you will be attending, and even canceling registration, if you are unable to attend, would be so helpful! Registration helps us with planning.
